Today Gridiron Fanatic will list three players that could fly under the radar and have an impact on the New Orleans Saints roster this season. We all know what guys like Drew Brees and Brandin Cooks are capable of, but it’s the players that fly’s under the radar and get the job done that can affect the outcome of a ball game.
Vonn Bell: Safety
The Saints decided to select Ohio State free safety Vonn Bell in the second round of the 2016 NFL Draft after they had taken fellow Buckeye Michael Thomas. ESPN NFL Draft gurus Mel Kiper Jr. and Todd McShay listed Bell as the best cover safety in the entire draft. If starting safety Jarius Byrd cannot stay healthy this season, Bell will have a chance to come in and be a game changer in the Saints secondary.
Tim Hightower : Running Back
The Saints running game could have a three-headed monster in their arsenal in Mark Ingram, C.J. Spiller, and Tim Hightower. Out of the three that were listed, Hightower is the guy that could have an immediate impact on the Saints offense. When Hightower stepped in for Mark Ingram in the final games of last season, the Saints rushing attack did not miss a beat. With both Ingram and Hightower, both healthy coming into this season, it will be interesting to see how head coach Sean Payton will utilize Hightower in this year’s version of the Saints offense.
David Onyemata: Defensive Tackle
To bolster their horrible rush defense, the Saints decided to select former Canadian Football League defensive tackle David Onyemata. Many Saints analyst were not happy with the price the team paid to get Onyemata, but the finished product could benefit the franchise in the long run. Onyemata will have guys such as Nick Farley to learn the ins and outs of a pro-style defense and could see a lot of playing time depending on the level of productivity that the starters are having on defense this season.
