He was a sought after player in the 2013 NFL Draft when the Cleveland Browns selected him sixth overall that year. Three years have passed, and the linebacker out of LSU will be heading to the northeast. According to NFL Insider Ian Rapaport, the Patriots have decided to trade for Browns linebacker, Barkevious Mingo.
The Browns in return shall receive the Patriots 5th round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. Mingo just could not play up to the hype that led up to his selection in the 2013 NFL Draft. The reason for Mingo’s mediocre play in Cleveland is because he did not have the right coaching staff intact to get the best out of his skill set.
There are many benefits of Barkevious Mingo joining the Patriots this season. He will have one of the greatest defensive minds in NFL History in Coach Bill Belichick that will challenge Mingo to take his game to another level.
However, the Patriots have done deals like this for years, under the Bill Belichick Era. They go out and give up a few late round picks to bring in someone that they believe will fit perfectly into their defensive scheme.
The Patriots roster is primarily made up of players that have brought in on reasonable expenses. Barkevious Mingo could be the next great player to succeed in Bill Belichick’s defensive scheme that has made him successful in the last decade. Now it’s up to Mingo to put it all together and contribute to the Patriots defense.
