After coming off of two back to back victories on the road against the Chiefs and Lions, the Denver Broncos finally return to Sports Authority Field. However, their next opponent will not be a pushover. The Broncos will host the Minnesota Vikings in what looks to be an exciting matchup for week 4 in the National Football League. Quarterback Peyton Manning clearly does not look like the Peyton Manning of old, but he finally has something that he was missing in the earlier days of his career.
The crucial element that Manning was missing at the beginning of his career was a reliable defense. Right now the Broncos are ranked 1st overall in total defense. In each of the Broncos three games, this season their defense has stepped up to the plate by making crucial plays against opposing offenses. This Sunday the Broncos defense will have their hands full with one of the best running backs in the league right now.
Vikings running back Adrian Peterson will try to plow his way to end zone this Sunday against one of the best rush defenses in the league. If the Broncos defense eliminate the threat of AP, then it will be solely on the arm of quarterback Teddy Bridgewater to win this game for the Vikings. So far Bridgewater has only thrown one touchdown pass this season. That is one stat that must improve if the Vikings want to go far this season.
If the Broncos rush defense shut down Adrian Peterson, then he must be able to deliver the ball down the field to Mike Wallace to generate some offensive production. The Vikings opponent the Denver Broncos must regain their identity on offense at some point this season. The Broncos are currently ranked 29th in the league in total offense.
That’s by far the lowest a Peyton Manning led team has been ranked in the offensive department. That trend must change this Sunday against the Vikings. My prediction for this contest is that the Broncos will win this game by the efforts of their stout defense once again. I just don’t think Teddy Bridgewater will be able to go blow for blow with Manning if needed be.
