The 2015-2016 NBA Regular is an only one week away and today Tops Sports will release who they believe will be the top five teams in the Western Conference. These are the five teams that we think have the potential of contending for a world championship in the upcoming season.
1. San Antonio Spurs
The Spurs have once again added another piece to their roster to become a premier team in the Western Conference this year. In the offseason, they signed free agent power forward LaMarcus Aldridge to a four-year $80 million dollar contract. Along with the signing of Aldridge, the Spurs also signed veteran power forward David West to add veteran leadership to an already talented roster.
2. Golden State Warriors
Regardless of who they had to go through to win the 2014-2015 world title, the Warriors are the defending champions going into this season. The majority of their roster that contributed to winning the title last season will be back for another exciting run to the NBA Finals. The road back to the Promised Land will not be easy. The Warriors will be “Public Enemy No.1” in the highly competitive Western Conference.
3. Oklahoma City Thunder
The Dynamic Duo of Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook will look to bring the once dominant Oklahoma City Thunder back to relevance in the Western Conference. A one hundred percent Serge Ibaka at the power forward position will make this ball club a tough out once playoff time has arrived. However, the supporting cast that will be surround the big three of Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook and Serge Ibaka will determine if the Thunder will represent the Western Conference in the NBA Finals.
4. Houston Rockets
During last year’s postseason, we saw glimpses of the Dwight Howard of old. Imagine if he stays healthy for at least 80 percent of the season and continue to play at that level? This ball club only scratched the surface last season when they made it to the Western Conference Finals. All-Star point guard James Harden will head into this season motivated after being named the runner-up in the 2014-2015 Most Valuable Player Award voting. Expect Harden and the Rockets to be a force to be reckoned in the 2015-2016 season.
5. Los Angeles Clippers
Once again the Clippers failed to advance past the Western Conference Semi-Finals of the playoffs last season. However, last year’s elimination may be the most heartbreaking. The Clippers blew a 3-1 lead to the Houston Rockets. Everything was set up for the Clippers to advance to the NBA Finals last season, but they failed to deliver. Fast forward to this season, the Clippers may have one of the best rosters in the league right now. Head coach Doc Rivers will have this talented ball club motivated to accomplish the task at hand this season. It’s championship or bust for Chris Paul and the Clippers this season.
