This Sunday two of the National Football League’s premier franchises will face each other in one of the most anticipated sporting events ever created in the Super Bowl. You have to agree that these two teams were the best in their perspective conferences after everyone had written them off at the start of the 2014 regular season.
The Seahawks got back to what made them successful which is run the football consistently with Marshawn Lynch and let quarterback Russell Wilson converting big plays with both his arm and his legs after getting rid of a dynamic wide receiver in Percy Harvin. The Seahawks defense has almost taken out every quarterback that has been labeled the title of being an “elite quarterback” in the NFL. They have punked both Drew Brees and Aaron Rodgers twice and embarrassed the best regular season quarterback in NFL History in Peyton Manning in last year’s Super Bowl.
The interesting thing in all of this is that it was the defeat of Tom Brady and the New England Patriots in the 2012 regular season that started the origin of Richard Sherman and the Legion of Boom who have terrorized some of the league’s best offenses since then. The Seahawks defense will eliminate the threats of Patriots wide receivers Julian Edelman, Brandon LaFell, and Danny Amendola in this contest. The real problem for the Seahawks will be their ability to stop tight end Rob Gronkowski.
The “Gronk” had a one of the best seasons ever by a tight end when he had over 1100 yards receiving and 12 touchdown receptions in 2014. Here’s another fact about the Seahawks defense. Just like the defense has taken down every top quarterback in the game they have also taken out some of the best tight ends that are in the league right now. Will Gronkowski’s name be added to the list? We’ll find out soon enough. The difference between “Gronk” and the other elite tight ends in the game is that he is a freak of nature and that he doesn’t let opposing defenses get the best of him when he is not on his game.
The New England Patriots must run the football with LeGarrette Blount and take the Super Bowl version of the 12th Man crowd out of this contest if they want to leave Glendale with their fourth Super Bowl Title in team history. It is clearly evident that the Seahawks defense tends to struggle with a bruising running backs that are not intimated by the mystique of the Legion of Boom or the vaunted Seahawks rush defense. Tom Brady must play mistake free football against the Seahawks this Sunday.
If he does not, we could see a repeat of what happened to Brady’s counterpart Peyton Manning in last year’s Super Bowl. The Legion of Boom has ruined so many teams’ hopes of possibly winning a Super Bowl Title in the previous seasons; they would love to add Brady and the Patriots to that list this Sunday. My prediction for this game is that the Patriots keep it close in the second half but will come up short against the vaunted Seahawks running game that will secure a second Super Bowl Championship for the Seahawks Organization.
