How Will New Assistant Coach Aaron Glenn Affect the Saints Going Forward?

A few weeks ago the Saints front office hired three new assistant coaches that had ties to the organization. Those three coaches are former Miami Dolphins Interim Coach Dan Campbell, Detroit Lions quarterback Coach Joe Lombardi and Cleveland Browns defensive backs Coach Aaron Glenn.

The assistant that can have biggest impact on the Saints roster is defensive backs coach Aaron Glenn. Before Glenn was an assistant coach in the NFL, he was an outstanding cornerback for the New York Jets when Bill Parcells was the head coach.

We all saw how good Browns cornerback Joe Haden was under Glenn’s guidance in Cleveland before he suffered the injuries; I believe that he can take defensive back Delvin Breaux under his tutelage and help elevate him into a premier defensive back in the league.

One of the biggest highlights of Delvin Breaux’s 2015 campaign with the New Orleans Saints was when he held Falcons wide receiver Julio Jones to only 96 yards on Thursday Night Football. However, there were times when Breaux would show his lack of experience playing cornerback in the National Football League.

Overall, I believe Breaux had an exceptional first year playing in the NFL. The Saints front office hiring of Glenn was just what the doctor ordered in regards to the Saints secondary. Aaron Glenn can teach the Saints secondary on how to become disciplined defenders. Everyone saw how inconsistent the Saints defense was in 2015 when they became the worst defense in NFL history under the Sean Payton Era.

In regards to Brandon Browner, I believe that he still could become a key contributor on the Saints defense as long as he is utilized correctly. Browner was an impact player on teams that won Super Bowls in the Seattle Seahawks and the New England Patriots. This guy just did not forget how to play defensive back overnight.

Hopefully, Glenn will be allowed to provide some insight on how to improve the Saints defense in regards to the secondary. The drama of Sean Payton possibly not returning to the Saints has been put to rest and now the retooling of this once dominant team has finally begun.

The hiring of Aaron Glenn as Saints defensive backs coach was taking a step going in the right direction. If you are a Saints fan, expect a lot of great things going forward in regards to these three great hires made by the Saints front office.
