Over the past two seasons, the Oakland Raiders have shown that the saying “Patience is A Virtue in the National Football League” is a valid statement. The team successfully found their franchise quarterback in Derek Carr, who they drafted in the 2nd round of the 2014 NFL Draft.
In the previous round, they selected one of the cornerstones of their franchise in the foreseeable future in linebacker Khalil Mack out of The University of Buffalo. The following season they drafted wide receiver Amari Cooper with the 4th overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft. Cooper had an impressive rookie season when he caught 72 receptions for 1,070 receiving yards and seven touchdown receptions.
To line up opposite of Cooper, the Raiders signed former 49er wide receiver Michael Crabtree, who proved to be a solid complimentary player to Amari Cooper and the rest of the Raiders’ offense. In regards to defense, the Raiders have one of the next up and coming stars in the National Football League in Khalil Mack.
One of the highlights of the 2015 season was when Mack tied the team’s single-game sack record by sacking Broncos quarterback Brock Osweiler five times. The Raiders have the nucleus intact to contend for a Super Bowl title shortly. How long will it take for this team to dethrone the Patriots possibly as the heavyweights in the AFC, only time will tell?
