Tennessee Titans rookie quarterback Marcus Mariota took the league by surprise yesterday when he picked apart the Tampa Bay Buccaneers secondary. Mariota completed 13 of 16 passes for 209 yards and four touchdown passes.
The Titans would go on to route the Bucs 42-14. I know it’s only the first game of the season, but you have to be impressed by the performance Mariota put on against Lovie Smith’s Tampa 2 defense.
If this is a precursor of things to come with this young signal caller, then division favorites such as Indianapolis Colts could have a problem on their hands. Up next for Mariota and the Titans is another on the road matchup, this time against the Cleveland Browns. Will Mariota have an encore? I would not be surprised, after the way the Browns defense performed against the Jets yesterday.
