As much as I hate to see Eagles quarterback Nick Foles walk the sidelines due to an injury, I am happy for backup Mark Sanchez who took over as the Eagles starting quarterback when Foles went down on November 2nd against the Houston Texans. In the Monday Night Football matchup against the Carolina Panthers Sanchez was lights out against the once fearsome Panthers defense. Many analysts are saying that Sanchez is a product of Chip Kelly’s system in Philadelphia however it’s not Sanchez fault that Kelly wanted him to sign with the Eagles at the beginning of training camp.
Sanchez needed a fresh start after being humiliated with the New York Jets a few seasons ago. A game of this magnitude should not bother Mark Sanchez at all he did play in two consecutive AFC Title games at the beginning of his career in New York.
The Eagles head into Lambeau Field with one of the league’s premier offenses which averages 404.3 total yards a game. The Eagles will need a solid performance out of running back LeSean McCoy if they want to leave Lambeau with a victory this Sunday. The Packers defense has yet to find a formula to stop the run this season; I expect their struggles to continue this week against the Eagles.
You have to remember that when opposing teams are going against the Eagles you just cannot put all your efforts into stopping Shady McCoy. You now have to worry about containing dual threat running back Darren Sproles as well. Sproles can strike at a moment’s notice and eliminate an opposing team’s chances of winning against the Eagles.
The last time the Packers went up against a high powered offense it was not pretty when they got steamrolled by the New Orleans Saints 44-23. Saints running back Mark Ingram ran for 179 yards against the Packers defense. Like I previously said the Packers have to worry about stopping two dynamic backs in this contest.
This will also be a chance for the Packers to see how they measure up against a team that can go blow for blow with them as well. My prediction for this game is that the Eagles will pretty much dominate this matchup until the fourth quarter when Aaron Rodgers will lead the Packers to victory in this intense ball game.
