Case Closed: The Cleveland Browns Need to Select A Quarterback With the First Overall Pick

The 2017 NFL Draft is only one week away, and the Cleveland Browns are the first team on the clock. There have been many rumors about what the “Mistake By the Lake” will be doing with the first overall pick in this year’s draft. Some reports have the Browns trading their two first round picks and possibly their second rounders as well for Patriots backup quarterback Jimmy Garroppolo.

If the rumors are accurate about the Browns trading for Jimmy G, it would be a huge mistake and could set the franchise back for another three years. Two solid games by Garroppolo is not enough to trade your first and second round selections in this year’s draft.

If the Browns trade for Garroppolo he would not have the supporting cast that he had in New England that allowed him to be successful during Tom Brady’s four-game suspension. The other report is that the Browns will draft Texas A&M’s talented defensive end Myles Garrett with the 1st overall pick in this year’s draft.

In one of my previous articles, I stated that “you can never have enough good pass rushers.” That is a true statement, but the Browns are a special case. Head Coach Hue Jackson and the rest of the Browns front office needs to come to an agreement and draft a quarterback in next week’s draft. Similar to last year’s draft, this one is loaded with good pass rushers.

They can draft one with their second first round pick or make a selection in the second round. The time is now for the Browns to develop a quarterback that can bring this franchise back to the glory days of years past. They finally have the head coach that has a track record grooming young quarterbacks in Hugh Jackson.

If the Browns are going to draft the University of North Carolina quarterback Mitchell Trubisky, they better hope that he is the right guy for the franchise because if not, the Browns will continue to be in quarterback purgatory, case closed.
