For the 16th time in their historic careers Peyton Manning and Tom Brady will face off in another crucial regular season matchup. The winner of this game will most likely have the inside track to having home field advantage in the playoffs. Both ball clubs are right where I predicted they would be when I made my season predictions in August.
About three weeks ago football analyst around the country had started to write off the Patriots dominance in the AFC until they went up against the explosive Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday Night Football. The Pats dismantled the Bengals 43-17, days after the game critics acted like the Patriots 41-14 lost to the Chiefs never happened. We all should know that we can never count out Tom Brady and head coach Bill Belichick in situations like this.
From that night forward the Pats have won their last four matchups and have taken ownership of the AFC East once again. It has been the opposite for Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos in 2014 so far. Their defense is playing lights out right now and do not look to take a step back. Peyton Manning is playing quarterback on a whole nother level right now. The man has pretty much broken every passing record in NFL history.
All he needs now is that coveted second Super Bowl Championship under his belt. Nobody is talking about how the Patriots are 2nd in the league against the pass. According to NFL.com the Pats defense is only allowing 210.9 passing yards a game. It will be interesting to see how Manning will attempt to dissect Belichick’s defense in this contest.
If there is any head coach that can figure out Manning it would be Belichick. Another component of the Patriots offense that was missing in their lost in the 2014 AFC Championship Game is Tight End Rob Gronkowski. Gronk miss the rest of the 2013 season when he tore his Achilles tendon. This will be the second time the Broncos defense has went up against a game changing tight end.
The last time it was against the Chargers Antonio Gates who had two touchdown receptions against the Broncos defense. Their defense must not allow performances like that happen again. My prediction for this ball game is that the Broncos will dominate the Patriots in front of their home crowd this Sunday. The Broncos just look better than the Patriots on both sides of the ball right now plain and simple.
