2015-2016 New Year’s Six and College Football Playoff Predictions

2016 Rose Bowl Game Presented by Northwestern Mutal

5 Iowa Hawkeyes vs. 6 Stanford Cardinal

Let’s be real here; this is Iowa’s Super Bowl. They are more excited about playing in the Rose Bowl than advancing to playoffs. On the other hand, the Stanford Cardinal is not thrilled to be here. The losses against Northwestern and Oregon affected their chances of playing for a National Title. The Hawkeyes keep it close, but the more talented Stanford Cardinal team will prevail.

Stanford Wins 27-20

2016 Allstate Sugar Bowl

13 Oklahoma State vs. 16 Ole Miss Rebels

I am expecting a sellout crowd at the Mercedes-Benz Super Dome when the Oklahoma State Cowboys face the Ole Miss Rebels. Both of these programs know how to light up the scoreboard in many different ways. The team whose defense decides to show up shall win this game, which will be Ole Miss.

Ole Miss Wins 49-34

Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl

14 Houston Cougars vs. 9 Florida State Seminoles

Eight years ago the Boise State Broncos shocked the college football world when they defeated powerhouse, the Oklahoma Sooners at the Fiesta Bowl. At the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl, the Houston Cougars will have an opportunity to knock off the highly touted Florida State Seminoles, who have been in the National Championship picture over the last two seasons. The Cougars are capable of pulling off the upset against the Noles in two days, but I believe Jimbo Fisher will have this team motivated to win this ball game. If Everett Golson was still the Noles starter at quarterback, I might have gone with the Cougars.

Florida State Wins 35-31

Battlefrog Fiesta Bowl

8 Notre Dame Fighting Irish vs. 7 Ohio State Buckeyes

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish and the Ohio State Buckeyes had playoff aspirations during the 2015 season. However, both programs will not be participating in the postseason this year. Both of these programs are evenly matched and have the potential to put up points at a moment’s notice. Aside from that, I believe the Buckeyes have the better running game that will catapult them to win this bowl game.

Ohio State wins 38-35

Goodyear Cotton Bowl

3 Michigan State Spartans vs. 2 Alabama Crimson Tide

The Michigan State Spartans finally broke away from the “we are just happy to play in the Rose Bowl and nothing else matter” crowd in the Big Ten Conference and competed for a National Title. The Spartans will be facing one of their former coaches that come from a previous regime at Michigan State in Nick Saban and the Alabama Crimson Tide. The Spartans were playing outstanding defense in their last few games, and I expect that to continue versus the Crimson Tide. However, if they give up one huge run by Derrick Henry, which I believe they will, they could lose this football game.

Alabama wins 28-26

Capital One Orange Bowl

4 Oklahoma Sooners vs. 1 Clemson Tigers

“Big Game Bob” is back and in full effect at Oklahoma. The Sooners are in the National Championship picture for the first time since their crushing defeat against the Florida Gators in the 2008 title game They will be facing one of the most dynamic programs in the country in the Clemson Tigers. Clemson is the only football program that is undefeated out of the four playoff teams that are contending for a National Title. My prediction for this game is that Clemson will not be able to handle the swift attack of the Sooner offense in this matchup.

Oklahoma Wins 45-31
